Lok Sabha election 2019 Polling largely peaceful, says EC; 63.69% voting in UP

Lok Sabha election 2019 Phase 1 Voting: Polling took place in 91 constituencies from 20 states for Lok Sabha elections 2019 on Thursday. Uttar Pradesh witnessed a voter turnout of 63.69% till 6 pm, while Bihar recorded 50.26% of poll percentage. In Odisha, the voter turnout was 66% till 5 pm, however, zero polling was recorded at 15 booths in Chitrakonda block of Malkangiri in the state. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir recorded an overall 56& of voter turnout. Andhra Pradesh also recorded 66% voter turnout, while it was 56% in Chhattisgarh.

In the first phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019, polling was held in Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep. The Election Commission said that voting was largely peaceful, barring a few incidents.

Of the 20 which went to polls, two states and two union territories witnessed voting across all the Parliamentary seats. According to the official communication by the Election Commission, the voting began at 7 am and concluded at 6 pm. In areas affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE), polling concluded at 4 pm.
